Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Tips and Tricks

With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft continues the successful game series and also delivers DLCs and regular updates in addition to the Season Pass. However, the changes in terms of settlement management, the limited upgrade materials, and the extensive skill tree make the 12th part and direct successor to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey a real challenge.

PLITCH will give you some Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tips and tricks that we wish we had known before starting our Viking adventure. The Viking saga is as innovative as it is extensive and leaves a lot of room for error, especially when it comes to the new game mechanics.

1) AC Valhalla tips and tricks for starting the game

Start with the story, explore later

The open world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is huge and offers many opportunities for exploration, finding legendary weapons and equipment like Thor’s armor and Thor’s hammer, or letting you put down roots.

Don’t get distracted by every marker, though. Instead, focus on the story first and do the rest at the end. This saves you a lot of frustration – but also brings special experiences, like finding Vinland.

Chat with NPCs

While strolling through your settlement, look for speech bubbles and talk to the people in the village. For the most part, they will simply share some views or concerns. But now and then you’ll be rewarded with new skills or extra missions. In addition, some romances are available to you through this as well.

Seer’s Hut and Assassin’s Office

In the beginning, after you have gained access to the building system, you should build a Brotherhood House of the Hidden Ones. This will enable new menus as well as quests. It can be constructed after you build a forge.

When you reach the third settlement level, the seer’s hut will immediately be unlocked. If the seer has a home, Valka awaits you with an interesting series of missions in a new area.

Skill tree

Eivor can access a large number of skills in the AC Valhalla skill tree but many of them are hidden at the beginning. So work your way to the edge of a node as quickly as possible to gain access to new sections.

Pay attention to the world level

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you will realize that not all areas can be accessed without restrictions. If your level isn’t high enough, you’ll quickly find yourself in Valhalla.

A place on one side of the river can have a significantly lower level than on the other. It is therefore always important to check the destinations meticulously on the map.

What is different about AC Valhalla compared to its predecessors?

Especially in the context of the last three installments of the game series, Ubisoft has provided a breath of fresh air. This doesn’t only refer to basic game mechanics like combat or the skill system including the construction of your own settlement. Above all, it’s about the small details, which nevertheless bring a great added value:

  • Calling the ship (possible at any time)
  • Horses can swim now
  • New combat system with a stamina bar
  • More authentic world
  • More diverse story
  • Great upgrade system
  • Unique items rather than just conventional loot
  • Mass battles are now better developed

2) Wealth / Mysteries / Artifacts

Instead of the previous collectibles and points of interest, there are now three categories in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wealth, Mysteries and Artifacts.

How to get wealth

You get wealth from raids. This often requires a crew member to help open doors or chests. Thus, it is necessary to protect them from enemies during fights as well. Once all the enemies in an area have been defeated, the riches can be plundered. Smaller riches, however, can also be found outside of the raids.

For example, there are smaller chests that are marked on the map by golden dots. While these don’t contain much wealth, they do help upgrade the settlement as well as your equipment – provided you’re up to trouble yourself by exploring the region to find them.

Upgrade the settlement – Unlock new quests and trade

Upgrading the settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, especially by building the aforementioned Brotherhood House of the Hidden Ones as well as the Seer’s Hut, will unlock new quests. So it’s not just about changing the appearance. In addition, various parts of animals cannot be sold, just like the Roman artifacts, until the appropriate building is constructed for them.

3) Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Tips on Combat

Let’s take a look at combat and show you which weapon and armor upgrades are important and how to use stealth to your advantage. However, we’ll leave it entirely up to you to decide how best to fight in the Vikings’ rap battles. There is no dedicated section about them in this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tips and tricks guide, so there will be no spoilers for you.

Weapon and armor upgrades

To keep up in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you need good weapons and strong equipment. Besides legendary weapons like Excalibur, there are a variety of others. Since areas can be quite challenging, as already mentioned, you should be well equipped.

But weapons and armor don’t just lie around. Consequently, they have to be found or bought. They are available in Fine/Gray, Superior/Bronze, Flawless/Silver, or Mythical/Gold.

In order to upgrade them, you need materials, which are harder and harder to find as the level increases. The materials are:

  • Leather – Often found when looting and hunting
  • Iron Ore – Often found on the map
  • Fabric – Rare material; can be found in chests
  • Titanium – Rare material; can be found in the world
  • Coal ingot – Found mostly in initial areas in England and Norway
  • Cupro-nickel ingots – Can be found in medium difficulty areas in England
  • Tungsten ingots – Necessary for the final upgrade level. Occurs only in areas with very high difficulty.

Stealth is important

As usual for the Assassin’s Creed series, stealth also plays an important role in Valhalla. While you’ll certainly want to crush your enemies with two swinging war hammers, the quiet and cautious way is often the better one, like when solving the toadstool puzzle or finding Asgard and Jötunheim.

There are many opportunities to do this. It isn’t particularly “Viking-like”, but in terms of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tips and tricks, it’s extremely helpful.

What’s especially handy about Stealth is that once enemies are taken out, they don’t respawn. For exploration missions, this means that it is quite useful to eliminate enemies before a battle to be able to master the following fight more easily. Especially unsuspecting enemies can be eliminated quietly and inconspicuously with assassinations or headshots.

4) Level up Eivor

As in many games, it is also important to level up your character in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This time developer Ubisoft has taken a new, somewhat simpler approach.

What is the best way to level up?

Eivor receives skill points for his actions. These can then be spent in the skill tree, and there are three areas you can invest the points in: Stealth (Raven), Melee (Bear) and Ranged (Wolf). This allows you to put together the right skillset for your individual play style. Thus, if you prefer to eliminate enemies secretly and without attracting much attention, you can improve your skills accordingly.

There are many ways to collect experience and skill points:

  • Fighting enemies
  • Side quests
  • Raids
  • Mysteries

To maximize the skills in the skill tree, it is helpful to do all the things offered on the map.

Change Skill Tree Points Afterwards

Especially convenient in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is that once you’ve spent skill points, you can reset them for free. This means that it’s not only possible to look at the nodes on the talent tree first, but also to adjust them later in the game if necessary.

Interesting: If you have unlocked enough skills and have a strength value of 280, you will receive the “We are now in the endgame” trophy.

5) Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Abilities

In addition to skills, Eivor can also learn special abilities. Unlike skills, which you unlock directly by collecting skill points, you get abilities only by finding and learning them in the AC world. Golden books are required. Once found, you must interact with them to unlock the corresponding skill.

Particularly useful abilities

Unlike the skills, the abilities cannot be “reset”. This, however, isn’t even necessary. When new abilities are found, the old ones are replaced. To do this, simply select the ability you want to replace. It is possible to assign up to eight skills in total, divided into four melee skills and four ranged skills.

Only your individual play style decides which of these are interesting for you. There are a total of 22 skills to choose from. You can find them in the Books of Knowledge, for which you usually have to solve an environmental puzzle in order to find them.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tips and tricks hint:

You can also find the locations as small yellow icons on your compass, just like ingots or equipment.

Abilities not in the skill tree

Unlike in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s predecessor, abilities are not found as part of the skill tree. They are now sorted next to the skills and are available in two levels each. What all abilities have in common is that you need adrenaline to trigger them. This is collected by successfully hitting enemies.

Build a Cartographer

You can build the map maker in your settlement during the course of the game. For this, you need 800 supplies and 60 raw materials. It will enable you to easily find the books of knowledge, treasure maps as well as Roman artifacts by allowing you to make maps.
