In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, developed by Ubisoft, you travel to ancient Greece. There you’ll experience the conflicts with Athens as a Spartan. Mass battles with over 100 NPCs await you for the first time. The story comprises over 50 hours of gameplay and the game includes impressive locations as well as myths and legends of antiquity.

The following Assassin’s Creed Odyssey tips and tricks will help you get started in the game and find your way around the extensive world.

1) Guided Mode vs. Exploration Mode

After you start the game, you’ll be offered the choice between the guided mode and the exploration mode. In guided mode, you explore ancient Greece in the familiar story mode, which was also included in previous titles in the Assassin’s Creed series. You’ll always get directions to the places you have to explore in your missions and quests on your map.

In exploration mode, on the other hand, you’ll only get vague hints about where the next place to visit is. On your map, however, you’ll be able to find your way around with the help of the question marks that represent the places you don’t know yet. Thus, you don’t have to rely completely on yourself.

Nevertheless, this mode is less suitable for beginners, as it’s easier to start the game and get into the story in the guided mode. Therefore, the exploration mode is more suitable for those who want to get deeply involved in the story and the environment.

2) Collect resources

Collecting resources is especially important in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Items like olive wood or iron metal can be used to improve various pieces of equipment at blacksmiths. If you’ve collected enough wood, you can also build arrows and fight long-distance battles with your bow. Your ship can also be improved – the resources needed for that are no different from those for the equipment.

Orichalcum Ore, which you can collect in the game, is the most valuable resource. It enables special purchases of items such as epic and legendary armor and weapons. However, the ore is only available in selected, rare locations in the game environment. But you can also get it by completing various tasks.

3) Disassemble your items

Many of your collected items you won’t necessarily use. So, you can sell these unnecessary items or disassemble them. By dismantling them, you’ll get more important resources that you can use to improve your armor or upgrade your ship Adrasteia.

4) Look out for cultist clues

If you’re exploring a foreign region, you should look for members of the Cult of Kosmos. Before that, however, you usually have to complete many quests or even buy clues from the blacksmith to eventually locate their whereabouts. By killing the cultists, you can improve your spear and learn new skills as well.

5) Tips on Ikaros

The eagle Ikaros helps you to position yourself in the air. You can use it similarly to a drone. With its help, you can mark both enemies and treasures. If you mark them with Ikaros, you’ll also be provided with fast travel. Besides that, your eagle also knows about the quality as well as the number of your enemies.

This information is very useful for you and your progress in the game since even normal-looking soldiers can be classified as epic and even legendary. Therefore, even mercenaries can be legendary and carry good usable items.

6) Fast travel

If you synchronize the vantage points on each island, you’ll sharpen Ikaros’ senses and he’ll be able to detect enemies or treasures faster. In addition, each of these synchronized points represents a fast travel point. Through them, you can quickly move from one place in Greece to another.

The more points you have synchronized, the faster and more often you can use this feature accordingly. An important fast travel point is your ship. You can select it at any time. Isu’s buildings are also available as such points after discovering them.

7) Tips on skill trees

In contrast to the previous titles in the video game series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has more role-playing components to offer. For example, the skill tree is very diverse. Which skills you should choose as a beginner or advanced player can only be determined by your play style. To be as successful as possible in ranged combat, it helps to improve your hunter skills.

Warrior skills, on the other hand, influence close combat and confrontation with enemies. To kill as quietly and unnoticed as possible, you should especially bring your assassin skills to the next level. However, one of the most important skills in the game, in general, is the Spartan Kick, which you can use to knock your opponents off an elevation.

Furthermore, the assassin skill Shadow Assassinations is important, as it increases the damage from executed assassinations. The predator shot is essential for you due to the increased damage with the arrow.

8) Assassin’s Creed Odyssey tips for combat

Use your surroundings

If a fight in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes place not far from a cliff and a precipice, be sure to lure your opponent close to it. If they are in the desired position, you can throw them into the abyss with your high-powered shot. You can kick them into the depths with the ability Spartan Kick.

The Ring of Chaos, also a skill, will send them down with a shockwave. This tactic is especially useful with strong enemies because you can avoid a long fight with them. They die immediately when they hit the ground.

Parry arrows

Enemy weapon attacks as well as arrows can be parried in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Although unlike in Origins, you can no longer carry a shield, you can parry arrows and all other attacks. However, you have to pay attention to the right timing. Just before an arrow penetrates the armor, you have to press the buttons. However, you can block them permanently if you keep pressing the combination of buttons.

Set enemies on fire with torches

Enemy soldiers can be attacked with torches and also set on fire. To do this, simply equip a torch and then swing it in battle. If an enemy is burning, they’re as good as defeated.

Use the dodge roll when you’re burning

When playing with fire, it can easily happen that you yourself get damaged. If you are on fire, you can easily extinguish yourself. To do this, press the dodge button and then roll across the floor.

Special abilities

By blocking attacks, you can not only prevent damage to yourself but also increase your adrenaline level. The adrenaline allows you to use the special skills of Kassandra or Alexios.

You should note that these can only be performed with a full adrenaline bar. You can also increase the adrenaline level by inflicting damage on enemies. Later in the game, you can use a second, fully filled adrenaline bar for an even better attack.

9) Board enemy ships

Once you’ve defeated an enemy fleet in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you shouldn’t simply destroy the remaining ships, but always board them. This will give you some Drachmas and resources like olive wood or iron. On the boarded ships there are also chests, which contain equipment. However, boarding the ships takes some time. If you don’t want to spend this time, use the ram spur to split ships and get a part of their loot.
