Have you tried launching the game manually via Steam and then using the Uplay version in the trainer?
The game actually runs via Uplay in general, so hopefully that should work

I know, it's silly. Bought the game through Steam but had to jump through some hurdles to get it started.

The cheats should work fine when playing via Steam, as the game runs through Ubisoft Connect regardless. If you're experiencing any issues with the cheats, feel free to let us know.
