I have the hotkeys set to different keys and the cheats used to work but recently, Ive only been able to turn them on via phone.
Have you tried activating the cheats manually in the trainer?

Were you able to activate the prepare?
Is the prepare greyed out?
Is your numpad turned on?

No I was not able to activate prepare 

prepare was not greyed out 

yes number pad is turned on

It is a hit or miss when it comes to manually turning on via trainer. Most times it did not work, and only turned on when I use the phone app. But recently its starting to work more often but the problem is not completely gone.
