Gold Cheats

Neither one of the cheats affecting gold (+500 and reset to 0) have any noticable effect.  Are there specific instructions I should be following?

Every other cheat works perfectly.

Did you gain/spend some gold BEFORE and AFTER activating the cheat?
Did you activate the prepare within a shop?

I have the same issue.  Click on prepare while in the shop.  Spend money but gold doesn't work.
