trying to play - wont activate

i am trying to use the cheats for derail valley. when i hit the play button, it loads the game but the play button stays green and i can unable to use any cheats, even if i try to change the keybinding for them.
has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix for this?

were you able to activate the prepare?
Did you launch Plitch and Steam with adminrights?
The play button has nothing to do with the cheats. It only loads up the game.
