using this code and keeping it over the actual original level of shards you are supposed to have lock you out of getting and new shards in turn you dont level up anymore.

foundout after killing 5 bosses and not getting new levels when having 50 shards on my saved game from the cheat

Hiya,

the issue should be resolved now. The set shards cheats has been removed and replaced with "Infinite GS".
Just spend 1 skill point anywhere before activating this cheat, then you can activate it and spend as many as you like. 
The game generates the code AFTER a skill point is spent so this wasn't immediately apparent to us ;)
