Did you have a negative value before activating the cheat?
Did you activate the cheat one time or did you hold down the hotkey for like a min?

I think so, I scrambled to push it to avoid going into the red while my economy readjusted.

Please do not activate the cheat when having a negative value as well as do not hold down the cheat button for too long

Well the money cheat only works with a positive balance. So try to add money before having a negative value.
