Trainer not working

Loaded the trainer, and selected the relevant version  of the game on Steam. and Play is greyed out. Unable to start it, despite various efforts, using different versions, for Steam. None of them allow me to select Play - which, as I said is greyed out.

The play button is greyed out once the game is already running in the background.
You have to load into your savegame and activate the cheat called "prepare"

Explain savegame to me, please. 

I don't use save games in F1 202x games, EVER, irrevevant of the game year, [in this case F1 2021]
I go through all the sessions.
P1-P2-P3 and then do the Qualy stints and then the actual race and that's it using full sessions [100%] on all stints
I race and then go with the outcome of said race, whatever the outcome - win or lose.
No backsies, reloading etc, [no save scumming]

Are you suggesting that I save the game prior to the actual race, and then use the trainer?
