Gold Cheat needs update maybe

Im not sure if Im doing something wrong or not. I have tried selecting one character in the inventory and then activated the cheat. This does change the gold value up top, but the physical gold item remains unchanged, the next time the game pulls up the value during trade, the value is reset to match the physical amount, rendering the cheat null. Picking a character on the overworld and activating yields the same results. Maybe Im doing it wrong, IDK. Any help would be greatly apreciated, thank you. Ps: prepare cheats is being activated in the inventory screen if it matters, and the other cheats work well.
